How to solo and mute multiple speakers using Fold Downs in Dadman
There have been a few people asking about muting and soloing speakers, so I wanted to do a post just about how you can use fold downs in Dadman to do this really easily (and flexibly) and in a way where it only takes up one button on MOMDeck.
If this is old news then skip the rest of this post!
The basic idea of fold downs is pretty simple. You have an input channel configuration and an output channel configuration and you map the input to the output. Traditionally, as the name implies, it is used to take a wide input and combine it to come out of a narrower channel width. Here's a picture of a 9.1.4 to Stereo Fold Down. You'll notice however that this fold down doesn't actually fold down any of the height channels so their audio is lost in this particular case. Not the best fold down, but it introduces how you can make these crazy flexible.

So, what if you just want to solo or mute groups of speakers? Easy, just make a fold down that has its input AND its output set to the actual speaker configuration of your room, then only assign the channels you want to hear. Here's a fold down that mutes the LCR of a 9.1.4 source by assigning all channels other than LCR to the same outputs (1 to 1) at 0dB:

And conversely here's one that solos the LCR:

Once you define the fold down you can assign it to a button in the MOM profile:

Hope that helps some peeps.
