SoundFlow freezes when using CS Control and Stream Deck Plus

By Robert Sörling @robertsorling

Hi, I just purchased the CS Control. I’m using a Stream Deck Plus.

I managed to map the four knobs to a plug-in. However, after a couple of turns on any of the knobs the whole SoundFlow app stops working (no commands work), and I have to restart the SoundFlow app. When trying again, the same thing happens. The pushbuttons work fine, until a start turning any knob.

    SoundFlow Version 5.4.8
    CS Control 1.0.4
    macOS 12.6.2
    ProTools 2023.9.0

    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    /Rob

          Hey @robertsorling,
Sorry that you're having trouble with CS Control.
To get a better understanding of the issue, run CS Control again, and after it fails run the "Collect User Logs" command inside of the CS Control package.
This will place a .zip file on your desktop.
Upload it to your preferred file sharing service (DropBox,Google drive, etc) and post the link here.
If you could also provide a screen recording that would be helpful too.

Mh, since SoundFlow freezes when i replicate the issue i can't run the "Collect User Logs" without restarting SoundFlow. Maybe that works anyway?
Here's a link to the log

                That's ok,
Collecting the logs after CS Control acts up makes the issue easier to find. The logs can get really big.

BTW - there's no need to unzip the file before putting it up on dropbox

                  1. My bad - DropBox displays the contents of the Zip file.

Nothing seems out of the ordinary at first glance.
                Just checking:
Did you set up your Stream Deck+ via the SF menu?

                1. Keep in mind that you can't/shouldn't use the SD application along with SF. This would lead to problems.

I used the SD+ for a while in the Stream Deck App when I got it but not anymore. Since I migrated it to SoundFlow I keep the SD app closed. Yes, I've set it up via the "Set up Stream Deck" in the SF menu.
I tried now to unistall the SD-app just to be sure it's not somehow running in the background. Still no luck.

                    1. I might have found the problem - I'll be posting anew version soon.
                      Thanks for your patience

                      I've updated the app to V 1.05.
Please update and let me know if things are working.
If not could you gather and post the use log files again?
                      Thanks!

Hi, thanks for being on it! I updated to 1.05 but I am sorry to say that it is showing the same behaviour.

                          1. OK,
I'm going to get the SF team to help me out on this.
Could you file a report via the "Help / Issue" button?
This will give them a complete set of logs for them to go over.

Again - thanks for your patience -we'll get this sorted out!

                              1. It probably isn't the cause of the problem but I noticed that you don't have the CS Control SD+ Deck assigned to your Stream Deck+:

Try assigning it with the drop down.

I just tried that, it didn't help. :/

Let's make sure that your stream deck+ is working with SF - just to rule out any bugs with SF or the Stream Deck+ driver.
Follow the directions in the pictures below and confirm that the knobs are working properly.
If they are working we should probably schedule a Zoom meeting to see if we can find the issue.
                                  Again, thanks for your patience!

                                  1. **For the "Clip Gain" and "Track Select" commands you'll need to have a session open.

                                      • If you don't see any indicator on your mac when using the volume command, open up System Preferences > Sound and the "Output volume" slider should move when you turn the knob

Hey Chris, thanks for the chat - I'm really greatfull you took your time.
So, before trying anything else I tried the "CS Control SD+ Deck (No Parameter Labels)" in the new CS Control Updade (1.08) - and it (knock on wood) seems to be working! :)

For your info - the original CS Control SD+ Deck with labels still has the issue with freezing SoundFlow. And the weird thing with SoundFlow not fully closing down when quiting from the menu bar is still an issue, even after a full reboot of my computer.

                                            Again, thanks!

                                            1. Great - glad it's working.
You may want to try updating to the latest SF as well (released today):
                                              https://downloads.soundflowcdn.com/5.5/5.5.0/04e36835dc9c0f69/SoundFlow_5.5.0.pkg

Update and see if you can run the original deck.

                                              1. In reply torobertsorling:

I would still try the delete SF app / Reboot/ Re-install.
The SF editor should always quit when SF is quit from the menu bar.

                                                    Ok, I will do that.

Btw, forgot to mention - I created a new empty profile with no commands assigned but CS Control. The behaviour of CS Control was still as before. (The Deck+ with labels caused SF to freeze, the Deck+ without labels works)

                                                  Robert,
I think I missed the obvious problem. According to SoundFlow’s requirements Pro Tools must be set to English:
                                                  https://soundflow.org/docs/getting-started/install-soundflow/system-requirements
Could you try running the original CS Control SD+ deck with Pro Tools set to English?

                                                  1. While in English, also check that quitting SF from the menu bar also quits the SF editor.

                                                    1. In reply toChris_Shaw:

Sorry, my original post said that your OS must be set to English. Only Pro Tools should be set to English

                                                      1. If you still have issues then try switching your OS to English. If CS Control works, then let me know.

Pro Tools was in English already but OS was in Swedish. I switched the OS to English and voilà - now it works! I feel a little embarressed - historically that's a common problem. Don't know why or when I decided to switch to Swedish.

And yes, the problem with quitting SF from the menu also seems to be solved!

Thanks Chris, been using CS Control with my SD+ a few days and it's brilliant! Great work! :)
