iPad Surface as a Midi Controller with faders for VCA automation

I would like to use my iPad as a midi controller via HUI with a custom 8 Fader setup. I'd like to control track automation for VCA tracks in ProTools. I've setup the Peripheral as "receive from: Soundflow HUI Output/Send to: SoundFlow HUI Input" and went into the midi input devices and selected "Soundflow Custom Midi Output 1 and Soundflow HUI Output in the checklist.

When I go back to ProTools, I get the error message "unable to communicate with HUI."

Is it possible for ProTools to see my iPad surface as a midi device and for me to use the faders in Protools for automation? Is there something I'm missing here?

    Thanks!

What I essentially want to do is create a surface that mimics the same controls as the Korg NanoKontrol 2 device. I want to build a custom SF Surface that looks and acts similar to this and then be able to automate VCA faders.

          Hi Tim,

To get bi-directional communication going via HUI (which is technically running over MIDI, but works very differently) to faders, this is currently only supported on the HUI Control package. This package would take over your entire surface, and cannot currently be mixed with other content.
Given this, I don't think the setup you're envisioning is currently possible, unfortunately.
