Hi Ed,
Thanks for reporting here. Is this the Avid Control app that's quitting or the SoundFlow app?
Did you do the upgrade of EUCON as you suggested you'd want to?If this is the Avid Control app quitting, it's likely a bug in EUCON that we would have to forward to Avid, so any details about Pro Tools, EUCON version etc. you can share would be helpful.

Copying in your original report here:
ipad eucontrol app quits and I just have to click the eucontrol on the ipad again and it’ll reinstantiate no problem.
Mac M1 2021, Ventura, Soundflow 5.4.8, streamdeck MKII, Eucontrol 4.16.0.10.3 version 2023.6.0.103. Ipad is hardwired via ethernet to adaptor connected to Mac studio and streamdeck is also connected via a usb extender (over Cat6) through a usb extender
By "ipad eucontrol app" do you mean Avid Control?
- EIn reply toEd_Hokam⬆:@Ed_Hokam
Ya the Avid Control app is quitting. Updated specs below. Just tried it after updating and problem still exists. Even when I quit Soundflow the Avid Control quits as well. It only happens on one Pro tools template that I have.. hm..
PT 2023.12.1
Eucontrol 2023.11.0.121
Avid Control 2023.11.0.266Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2024-04-11 21:11:33.492Z
Hm ok. This probably needs to be reported to Avid for sure. Do you have a way of reaching their support?
When the crash is happening on the PT/Eucon side there's not much SF can do, most likely it's a bug on their end (although not 100% certain). I did read some things about EuControl versioning online somewhere that there were certain things you had to do if you updated Pro Tools since there was no accompanying Eucon update with the 2023.12 release. But I'm not certain - this is not our product, so it's hard to give support on (even if SF being a Eucon-enabled product helps unveil the bug).
Wanted to update what fixed the issue: I just upgraded to SoundFlow 5.8.0 and avid control ipad is not quitting when I delete a macro on SF nor is it quitting when I re-order tracks with in PT. I did have multiple support sessions with Avid prior and they weren't able to replicate the problem so that's when he suggested upgrading SF.

That's amazing news, Ed. Thank you for sharing. To be completely honest, I have no idea what changed that helped with this, but let's hope the fix sticks.
OK unfortunately it's back again. I've spent hours with Avid support to no solution because they can't replicate the issue on their end. If we don't involve PT at all, I'm still dealing with the issue that whenever I delete macros my avid control quits. Anyway for some support on this maybe you guys can see what's happening under the roof?

Hi Ed,
It only happens on one Pro tools template that I have
Is this still the case? If so, I bet we would have trouble replicating this as well (also, seeing no other users have reported this) without that specific session.
It sounds to me like something in the template reveals a bug in EuControl, when SoundFlow updates its shortkey commands and tells Eucon about it. For the Eucon team to fix this bug, it's unlikely SoundFlow can do anything here except forward your information to the right people.
I'd be happy to look more into it if we can reproduce it on our end. Would you be able to try to narrow down the session to perhaps just a few tracks (no audio/video content) to have a small session that breaks Eucontrol? And then forward that to us with repro steps?
I'm hearing an off-site editor also has the same glitch, when they rearrange tracks in PT their avid control ipad quits.
Let me ask you, if I wanted to, say, make it so SF never communicates with eucon, is that possible? I know that there is integration in there that are useful but in my setup I'm not using any of those, maybe it's something I can try, if I turn off that integration all together?
Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2024-08-07 20:46:21.154Z
That's a good idea, at the very least as a troubleshooting step.
Still weird re. the track re-ordering as that shouldn't cause SF to send any information to Eucon at that time (we don't receive events from Pro Tools). It's possible to turn off Eucon support in SoundFlow, but it requires you to be able to edit JSON files. Are you comfortable with that?
- EIn reply toEd_Hokam⬆:@Ed_Hokam
Right, but just even the fact that if I delete a macro on SF nearly every time it quits Avid Control makes me think something's going on there.
I'm not comfortable working with JSON files unfortunately
Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2024-08-07 22:08:32.182Z
Can you reproduce the bug where removing/reordering tracks causes Avid Control to quit, if Soundflow is not running?
Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2024-08-07 22:12:23.437Z
I'm asking since the fact you're getting the crash when reordering tracks, indicates that this is not related to SoundFlow at all.
Reordering tracks causes Pro Tools to send Eucon messages to Avid Control. SoundFlow adding a macro causes SoundFlow to send Eucon messages.
The common denominator here is not SoundFlow, but Eucon/Avid Control.Ya it is reproduced without SF as well. You're probably right and I'm grasping at straws here but regardless of PT reordering issue, why would avid control quit when deleting Macros on SF? Or renaming macros?
Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2024-08-07 22:20:39.967Z
Hi Ed,
The common denominator appears to be Eucon messages/updates being sent to Avid Control. One guess could be that it crashes if it gets a lot of data at once. SoundFlow sending a new update with lots of new macros (if you add a single macro, SF has to re-send everything due to how Eucon works) would be a lot of data. Pro Tools reordering tracks might be a lot of data, if they also have to resend everything there.
Either way, the common denominator here is the link between Eucon and Avid Control, so I don't think SF can help :/Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2024-08-07 22:21:47.417Z
By the way, this being said - in your case it might still be helpful to disable SoundFlow's Eucon support, so at least you can use SoundFlow as much as you want without triggering the bug in Eucon. You'd then only see the bug when reordering tracks (because we weren't really fixing the bug, just avoiding it) - but at least making new macros wouldn't trigger it.
Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2024-08-07 22:37:09.578Z
To disable SoundFlow's Eucon support, please follow these steps:
- Create a script with this content:
var appSettingsPath = '~/Library/Application Support/SoundFlow/v2/appSettings.json'; var json = sf.file.readJson({ path: appSettingsPath, }).json; log(`Existing value of disableEuconSupport = ${json.disableEuconSupport}`); json['disableEuconSupport'] = true; sf.file.writeJson({ path: appSettingsPath, json, });
- Run the script once. It will show this:
-
Quit SoundFlow entirely, by clicking the SF icon, then clicking Quit.
-
Start SoundFlow again from Applications.
-
To verify the settings were properly saved, run the script again. It should now say that "the existing value of disableEuconSupport = true"

Yes!

If I may add something here:
Do you have SF listed in the EuControl Settings / Applications tab?
I would try removing it just to rule out another possible cause. It's not necessary to have it in the Applications list in order to trigger SF scripts / macros via EuControl soft keys etc.Chris Shaw @Chris_Shaw2024-08-08 18:45:25.141Z
I've had it removed from the applications list for quite sometime without issues.
Chris Shaw @Chris_Shaw2024-08-09 19:02:11.747Z
Ok. Just ruling out other possibilities

Update: disabling soundflow's EUCON support did help, 20% better. But the real fix was a week or two ago when Avid Control came out with the 2024 update, it specifically wrote in the updates that "fixed crashing sometimes when re-arranging tracks or deleting tracks in big sessions".. and wouldn't you know it, it's actually fixed. Running couple days now, no crash at all.

Perfect, that confirms what we suspected! Great to hear :)
