Error completing snapshot--various sessions
hey andrew
i'm getting a general "error completing snapshot" after most (not all, but many) snapshots across different songs/projects.
i tried reinstalling, resetting, etc. no luck
user files and a screen capture of the issue is here
https://www.dropbox.com/t/7CCYtM2hTM7vkDQl
i had to make the screencap short so it doesn't show any song name info, etc.
thanks

Thanks for posting a question or an issue related to the 'Scheps Bounce Factory' package.
This package is made by @Andrew_Scheps. We're auto-tagging them here so that they will hopefully be able to help you. Please see support instructions here from @Andrew_Scheps:
Bounce Factory Support
The best and fastest way to get help with any Bounce Factory problem is to send the User Files and (if applicable) a screen recording of Bounce Factory failing. The easiest way to do this is to use the "Report a Problem" button in the app:
1. Go to the Bounce Factory settings using the cog in the bottom-right of the app:
2. Click the red "Report A Problem…" button at the bottom of the Settings screen
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Thanks!

Hi @Chris_Tabron ,
Thanks for the files!
It's failing on one track on particular, so I would imagine it's a track in your template if it's failing on lots of sessions. On the last session you were trying to Snapshot ("I'm Better") it's failing on track 118 of 247 tracks. So maybe show all tracks, turn on track numbers to see which it is. Then try deleting that track (and the one before and after just in case my indices are off by one the way I'm counting). If this fixes it then if you could send me a session (no audio) I can try and reproduce here.
Weird one...
Thanks,
Andrew - In reply toChris_Tabron⬆:Chris Tabron @Chris_Tabron
ok deleting the tracks #118 and one above and below seemed to fix it. however, none of them were from my template. i'm gonna see what other sessions bring about the same error...is there a way a civilian like me can look at the log and determine which track # is causing the fail? this way i don't have to bug you every time.
thanks!

spoke too soon...same session, made a quick edit (didn't add or delete any tracks) and it still won't complete the snapshot.

EDIT: It seems to be fine completing the snapshot when i show all tracks (inactive, etc). not sure if this is of diagnostic significance tho...
Andrew Scheps @Andrew_Scheps
That actually might be the clue. BF should be showing all tracks before it gets to the bit where it's screwing up, but something must be going wrong with that. Can you see if manually showing the tracks before you Snapshot fixes it and then I can try to figure out why it isn't doing it itself?
- In reply toChris_Tabron⬆:Chris Tabron @Chris_Tabron
I'm getting a "batch bounce failed" on multiple sessions now. Just updated to latest BF build. It completes the bounce properly then it seems to hiccup on the "setting session view back to previous state" step. I tried our previous workaround where I manually show all tracks, and it doesn't help.

Andrew Scheps @Andrew_Scheps
This is a completely different error, so I think our initial workaround is still valid. This one is failing trying to set the new track the bounce is on to "no output" so it doesn't show up in subsequent bounces.
You are back a version of SoundFlow, so update to 5.7.7 to see if that helps. The only other thing I can think of is being on Monterey, which was problematic, but I absolutely can't tell anybody to mess with their operating system. Do you have any time tracker apps running or something else that could be taking up system resources?
If getting SF up to date doesn't help just set the bounces to go to the clip list instead of a new track to get your work done while I try and figure out how to test this on your system.
There is obviously something on your system fighting with Bounce Factory, but no idea what it is...
Chris Tabron @Chris_Tabron
Ok I didn’t realize about SF version. Will give that a try thanks. No resource hungry apps running at all, but I am gonna get through this batch of bounces and consider Ventura.
I wonder if this error could be related to what happens when I recall a preset and BF says it only recalled some of the data because it can’t find the destination track in the session (preset is to make new not place on existing but BF treats as though i am asking to place on existing).
Thanks as always
C
Andrew Scheps @Andrew_Scheps
That sounds like a bug on my end. It must be storing something for the destination track even if it’s not used. I’ll have a look.
Use the clip list and you should be good!
Chris Tabron @Chris_Tabron
ok so i broke a diagnostic rule and changed two things before testing. however, on Ventura and the latest SF build, it seems like the snapshots complete and batch bounces complete fine without me having to manually show all tracks.
the preset recall error is still there, but i just manually flip the dropdown to "new track" and it seems fine.
thanks,
CAndrew Scheps @Andrew_Scheps
If it works you can break all the rules you want! So glad that cleared things up.
The preset thing is just about on my end and I’m going to hopefully have time to fix it this week.
Chris Tabron @Chris_Tabron
it seems on my main (non travel) rig, i'm having problems with placing bounces on tracks and/or completing bounces at all. i tried our previous diagnostic stuff with showing all tracks etc.
this rig is not on ventura (yet) but dunno if that could really be the issue. anyway, can't update to Ventura until tomorrow but thought i'd send you user files in case there's anything obvious sticking out to you before then. on multiple sessions can't seem to get BF to finish so have been gasp printing manually again.

Looking at the logs it's a few different errors. Just saw you are using Playlist passes, let me triple check nothing has broken with them, I haven't tested in a while.
Placing bounces on tracks should actually be fixed in the version of BF I published today.
Chris Tabron @Chris_Tabron
yeah i was using playlist passes for "clean" version and then used "batch" to get a "clean acapella" (idk if there's a better way to achieve this but needed a certain playlist and a mute VCA to happen for that).
if there's best practices i'm missing re: batch vs playlist passes please lmk. will update BF and give it a shot. thanks
Andrew Scheps @Andrew_Scheps
That's what Mini Snapshots are for. They can combine Mute, Solo and Playlist switching into one mix pass. When you click Add Batch, in the dialog choose Mini Snapshot in the top half of the dialog and it will walk you through the process. Or maybe that's what you were already doing. If not the vocal track would be switched back to whatever playlist it was on when you completed the Snapshot. Mini Snaps are really powerful but a little confusing the first few times you set them up.
Chris Tabron @Chris_Tabron
yeah it seems like i've been using mini snapshots correctly, then. when i said "batch" that's what i meant... it's a pretty straightforward process once i got the hang of it.
once i send out some stuff to clients today, i'll do the ventura thing and hopefully that works.
thanks again
Andrew Scheps @Andrew_Scheps
Great, lemme know!

Ok, just triple checked Playlist passes here and they're al working as they should.
There was another user having lots of random problems on Monterey that went away when he updated, so I have a feeling that Ventura will make your life much happier.
Chris Tabron @Chris_Tabron
i'm still having the error placing on tracks. latest BF build (1.6.14) and OSX Ventura. PT 2024.3.1

Can you bounce one mix pass and screen record it failing? It’s having trouble with something that worked on your system before. So frustrating!
Chris Tabron @Chris_Tabron
unfortunately, i'm having an issue with being able to complete a snapshot. i was on the previous build of BF and was having issues with mute track passes, so i updated thinking it might help but it's unable to complete a snapshot.

Is it possible there's something weird about the export settings in your preset? Like the export path? Can you try setting everything manually instead of the preset and see what happens? Whatever it is it should handle it a lot better than it is, but if we can figure out which parameter is the problem I can hunt down the issue.
