Pro Tools context menus close unexpectedly

    System Information

    SoundFlow 5.7.7

    OS: darwin 23.4.0

    ProductName: macOS
    ProductVersion: 14.4.1
    BuildVersion: 23E224

    Steps to Reproduce

Hi, everytime I want to access a context menu with a right mouse click (executed manual with my finger on the mouse), the context menu opens, but is then closed after 1 second. So if I want to choose an item from a context menu (for example if I right-click on a track to hide it, or to commit it), I only have 1 second, to move my mouse to the item and click it. Otherwise the context menue is closed automatically.
This behaviour started approximately one week ago. When I quit the Soundflow App completely, this behaviour stops and I can access all context menus as expected.

    Soundflow version: 5.7.7
    ProTools: 2024.3.1
    macOS: Sonoma 14.4.1
Fresh install of soundflow didnt help.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    best Guenther

I found a trace to the problem. As soon as I uninstalled the "Pro Tools Track Control" package, the problem was gone.
For debugging: I have 7 dynamic mute buttons on a 8x4 Streamdeck and one extra dynamic mute button on a 5x3 Streamdeck.

        1. Hi! Thanks for posting here.

I have a feeling this is the same underlying bug that was discovered by one of our developers. It appears that Pro Tools has a bug in 2024.3 where popup menus will indeed randomly close when certain functions are being called to query for various states in Pro Tools.

I'll log this bug so we can forward it to the Avid team.

This issue is now tracked internally by SoundFlow as SF-1189

Hi again. I have tried to reproduce this on macOS 12, but things work fine here. I've asked @Chad to help reproducing the issue.

                Hey @G_O!

Thanks for the report. I'm curious do you use the "Output Window: Follow Selected Track" command? I am able to reproduce this behavior with that script and other scripts like it on Sonoma 14.5– that is using "runForever" scripts in the background. However, "runForever" scripts seem to work as expected on my Ventura machine.

I guess as a follow up, are you using Pro Tools Track Control 2.0.0 or above? The latest version of Track Control uses a slightly different architecture and seems to still function on Sonoma 14.5 for me without this issue with context menus.

                Thanks!
                Chad

Linked issue SF-1189 updated: The bug in which Pro Tools context/popup menus could disappear if a SoundFlow script (or any other software) would be sending a message to Pro Tools, has been fixed in Pro Tools 2024.10.
