    1. Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for reporting it here. Are you using a computer with multiple macOS users? This could explain why the SF icon is sometimes missing, as the app could still be running in one of the other user accounts (that scenario is not supported)

I'm also seeing some crash reports from today. This could either indicate that you force closed the process somehow or that a crash was indeed occurring - that could also explain the icon missing or being red.

Are you connecting to SoundFlow from behind a firewall or VPN? This could in some cases explain why it takes longer to load your settings (and in some cases they can't at all). For this reason, connecting behind firewalls/VPNs requires using our Proxy.

Yes, this computer has multiple accounts, however, the other account does not have SoundFlow installed. Is that a problem?

How do I check if it’s behind a firewall as you have suggested I don’t believe it is?

Lastly, what is involved in the setting proxy as you have described?

          1. Yes, this computer has multiple accounts

Do you ever switch between the accounts having the others still open instead of fully logging out? The issue corresponds to what would be seen if SoundFlow was running in a different account than the one you currently have open.
The fix for this is to ensure to quit SoundFlow entirely (SF icon by the clock -> Quit) before switching accounts, as it can't be run on two accounts simultaneously.
If you always log fully out and never have another account simultaneously logged in, then this may not be the root cause - but everything you've shared so far points in this direction.

                Ok.

To my knowledge, I only see one install on my home computer.

More details might help, and perhaps eliminate any misunderstandings.

I use this account both at my home and at my work.

When I’m at my work, I actually have two different rooms that I pop between but whenever I leave one room, I log off and quit the app.

I’m wondering if these other computers are perhaps showing up on your log when you look at my computer? As I said both of these computers at my work work fine.

At my home, the computer that has the issue does have two user accounts, but to my knowledge, there’s only one installation of Soundflow on one user account. The second account doesn’t have anything in the applications folder. Whenever I login, I always use the same account and I do log off when I’m done so that when I go to work, I can use my work account.

Is there a way for me to do a cleaner removal of SoundFlow and uninstall app to let me start again that way if there was a second one perhaps I’ve installed it twice, but I don’t understand how you could install it twice. Could it perhaps have installed the update and not gotten rid of the older version? I’m just not understanding how I can have two accounts potentially on this computer. when I go into the other account and look at the application folder, I do not see anywhere. It’s only the main account that I use on my own home computer.

                1. Hi Jonathan,

Apps on macOS are installed in a central location for all macOS user accounts. I haven't been discussing SoundFlow accounts at all - what we're discussing here are macOS user accounts.

The issue you are seeing where the icon does not show up and you get an error when trying to run the app, is consistent with if the app was running while logged into one of the other macOS user accounts. This has nothing to do with the Applications folder.

                  1. I'll ping @chad here who might be able to better help you troubleshoot the issues you're seeing. If you could provide screen recordings as well, that would be helpful.

Also, you mention that you only sometimes see the issue. Figuring out exactly when it happens would also go a long way.

This next screenshot video is the same day a few hours later. I’ve not logged out of any user account on this computer. I haven’t been to work to use the other Mac’s . In fact my work has been closed down for the past two days.

But you’ll clearly see here that the app is not starting .

You keep saying that there’s a possibility of multiple accounts opening it. I don’t understand how that could be the case. I’m the only person using this on this one computer. This is just a few hours later and it just will not open up.

this issue been going on for a few weeks, have tried reinstalling it . notice your now at 5.7.8 wa hoping that made a difference.

Is there a uninstaller I need to use before I re install?

                              Hey @Jonathan_Johnson!

This is Chad, a member of the SoundFlow team. Thank you for the videos. Here are a few things we can try:

                              • Let's try a fresh re-install with a few extra steps. There's a video outlining the steps here: Sound Flow - Log In Issue - Security & Privacy #post-11, and written steps here: Sound Flow - Log In Issue - Security & Privacy #post-12. This should thoroughly reset the installation of SoundFlow.
                              • Next, with your permission, I can copy your SF account's settings to a testing account. For issues like this, it can be helpful for our support team to open a copy of a user account to diagnose problems. If re-installing as outlined above does not remedy the issue, do you approve of me looking at your account this way to find the source of this problem? Note: This will not affect your account in any way; I would only make a copy of the account for testing purposes.

                                Thanks!

I will try what you suggested, and you have my permission to enter the account. THANKS!

                                  1. Thanks guys for working on troubleshooting this.

One quick workaround that you can always do to kill off a process which may be running somewhere else: run this in Terminal to kill off any stray processes related to SF:

                                    pkill -9 SoundFlow

Of course, figuring out why they are running in the first place (in a bad way) would be the point of the troubleshooting.

Did the re-install using those terminal commands help at all? If not, I'll take a look at your account today.

                                      Best,

Had to reinstall everything again, a second time.

Kept getting messages, saying editor is off-line.

We have to shut down and bring editor back multiple times.

At one point, the keyboard stopped working, then when I shut forced quit SoundFlow, the keyboard was fine. Checked to make sure my steer mouse wasn’t the issue with another mouse was not the case.

                                                This program seems incredibly buggy

                                                1. Diving deeper into your logs reveal there are repeated crashes related to CoreMIDI not allowing SoundFlow to set up its MIDI related services. These crashes explain the other things you're seeing.

We had a person report a similar thing recently. Chad's videos helped in that case, because it turned out the permissions on macOS were not set correctly. I can load your account just fine here, so it's likely there's something corrupt on the OS that causes these crashes.
Making sure that you follow each of the steps exactly like Chad shared in the video would be the way to go.

Christian, thank you for your response, the videos Chad sent to me earlier. I have followed as I previously responded in yesterday thread saying that I had done every step in his video and have confirmed the preference settings and I am still getting the issue. After posting that -you then responded to follow the videos that Chad did, I thought perhaps there was another that you were mentioning ( the first time I’ve heard mention of midi in your last thread ) , but as I said, I’ve gone back and followed the videos to the letter twice now to reinstall And then give SoundFlow the permission needed and it is still faulting. The issue has not gone away since I followed Chad’s videos .

are there other videos I need to look at that we mentioned perhaps could that be what you’re referring to?

So I’ve gone back and followed both of Chad’s videos for a third time cleared everything from the terminal. Erased SoundFlow. Shut the computer down. Restarted reloaded program. Reassigned permissions per the videos.

Loaded SoundFlow up, started editing and immediately had an error message saying ‘you’re currently not online’ And yet I could be on the Internet.

Any other sage words of wisdom to try?

This would give us updated log files and crash reports to look at. Whatever is happening, something very weird is going on on your computer with some kind of conflict, that might be the first time we're seeing.

I have to go back to the the grey icon and quit in which case the gray dot in the top right disappears and I have to start again

And just now after I restarted the whole process and started editing again I did one move and then got kicked off-line again

                                        Hey @Jonathan_Johnson,

Thanks for the updates on your system details and the things you have tried on your end.

I took a look into your account this evening, and I did notice a few things I'd like to try:
Could we try toggling off triggers for some commands using Application Triggers, Window Triggers, and Stream Deck Triggers? Many application Triggers seem to attempt to fire when activating Pro Tools, Finder, and iZotope RX. This can be okay, but I'm curious if there is some conflict here. Specifically, some of these scripts, like "Create Folders," performed quite complex scripts, creating directories every time Pro Tools was activated.

                                        • I would try toggling some commands with Window Triggers for similar reasons.
                                        • I would also try toggling the two commands that have Stream Deck Triggers set to see if that helps for any reason.
                                        • You mentioned using Steer Mouse, and I saw references to Keyboard Maestro in your account. Could you try quitting other automation software running on the machine to see if SoundFlow behaves better? I'm curious if there is a conflict between multiple automation systems running concurrently.

Here's another video talking through some of these ideas of things to try:

Copy that, thanks so much for making the video was very informative.

To be honest, I didn’t realize I had some triggers reaching out to a mobile device to control. I actually don’t have a mobile device that I use very often. I’ve went and shut all those down.

Have togled off the triggers as you’ve asked. Am curious as I only had 3 app triggers going, one for finder, pro tools and RX. But if it more effective to use windows I’ll give it a go!

And you’re right I’ve seen some conflicting things that I will go and weed through so there’s no conflicts that could be adding to the issue. Thanks again.
