Snapshots and Bounces failing consistenly

By Alexis Cuadrado @Alexis_Cuadrado

    Hello @Andrew_Scheps

I've been having some consistent failures with BF today. When I started, I was able to capture a few snapshots, but then they would fail to bounce. Then, BF failed to capture new snapshots. I had exported some and re-imported them, but the bounces kept failing. Here's a video capture of what was happening: https://tinyurl.com/yepth5by

    I'm on SF 5.8.0 and BF 1.7.8
    PT Studio 2024.06
    Mac OS Ventura 13.6.7

    PS:

I hadn't used BF for a few months as I had the trial version, but today, I had a deadline for a soundtrack and had to bounce quite a few stems, so I signed up first for the basic version and then for the Pro add-on as I thought that might be part of the issue. Unfortunately, in the end, I had to do it manually, as I had to deliver the session by EoD today.
What's the best way to communicate with your customer service directly?

Thank you so much and thanks in advance!

    Alexis

Thanks for posting a question or an issue related to the 'Scheps Bounce Factory' package.
This package is made by @Andrew_Scheps. We're auto-tagging them here so that they will hopefully be able to help you.

Please see support instructions here from @Andrew_Scheps:

        Bounce Factory Support

The best and fastest way to get help with any Bounce Factory problem is to send the User Files and (if applicable) a screen recording of Bounce Factory failing. The easiest way to do this is to use the "Report a Problem" button in the app:

        1. Go to the Bounce Factory settings using the cog in the bottom-right of the app:

        2. Click the red "Report A Problem…" button at the bottom of the Settings screen

        3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

        Thanks!
        Andrew

            Hi @Alexis_Cuadrado ,

This is definitely the best way to get ahold of me. When you're reporting an issue please always send me the User Files (instructions on how to get them below).

In this case though I don't think I need them. If you look at the screenshot of your video, you have the Bounce Factory app covering the I/O and some of the sends. It needs to be only covering the audio timeline itself (or on a second screen if you have one). It's failing because SoundFlow can't get to some of the UI it needs.

If it still fails when you move it then absolutely reply to this post with a link to the user files.

            Thanks!
            Andrew

                @Andrew_Scheps, thanks for the reply!

I am a bit perplexed by the idea that the BF window being "physically" on top of the I/O edit window would interfere with the operation. If that's in any videos or tutorials, I certainly missed it!

Unfortunately, the failure continues to occur.

Here are two videos from today: one with the BF window on the main screen but not on top of the I/O and another with the BF window on the second screen. I've also added the zip archive with the user files.

And in my case, yesterday really sucked. I spent a couple of hours trying to make BF work to no avail, reactivated my subscription, and, ultimately, had to do all the manual labor. It was doable, but it took a few hours. That's the whole point of BF working to save us time, energy, and headspace, which was the opposite of my day.

I would like to kindly request a refund if this is the only customer service avenue. I'm a one-person-shop indie producer and cannot afford $50 monthly, but I will be glad to jump in and out on a project-to-project basis. I hope that seems reasonable to you.

                Thank you again!

                My best

                    Hi @Alexis_Cuadrado ,

Did you save the user files before or after the new videos? If before please run the script again so I can see the logs. Your first video of this batch still has Bounce Factory covering something other than the timeline (the clip list) but I would love to see the logs from when you had it on a different screen. All the erros in the logs you sent are consistent to the very forst video where the app is covering the PTs counter.

Let me figure out what went wrong and then I can address the rest of your post if that's ok.

                    Thanks,
                    Andrew

                          Hi @Andrew_Scheps
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated!
I tried again to start the snapshot process with the BF window not covering anything other than the edit window, and it worked. It also worked with the BF window on the second screen.
I am wondering if the non-working is related to the snapshots I took yesterday. But, as you saw in today's earlier video it wasn't working when the old snapshots were on the BF screen.
Yesterday I certainly went down a rabbit hole of trial and error, some of the things I tried were:

                          • Delete all snapshots and try again
-Uninstall - Reinstall SF (also log out-in)
                            -Restart system
                            etc...

I've added a new export of the user files to the same Dropbox folder. https://tinyurl.com/e8pkuye7
I hope you can find the culprit, not so much for myself since my job is already delivered, but for others as well. If the cause is that the main window is not on the edit window only, then it's almost comical that this happened, as I had zero clue that it could be an issue. I do want to be able to use BF when needed, it's a fantastic tool.

Thank you so much for offering a zoom. I'll email you.

                          My best

Definitely email when you have time and we can discuss the rest of it too.

In the meantime, if you look at the Best Practices video you can see all the screen setup stuff. It's an old video but none of that has changed really.

                                    Hi again @Andrew_Scheps

I just wanted to let you know that I did some more tests, and this is what I experienced:

If older snapshots "loaded" in the main BF screen were taken while BF was covering any of the non-edit window parts (I/O, clip list, etc.), it will fail to make new snapshots even if the BF window is now in the correct place (middle of the edit window or on the second screen).

If I delete the old snapshots and place the BF window in the middle of the edit window, it works with no issues.

It seems like buggy behavior - if the problem is "don't cover areas other than edit window", it should take snapshots regardless of how many "wrong" snapshots are loaded, correct? I think that's what didn't work for me yesterday, as I had no idea about not covering the areas, so I probably didn't get to try to delete all the old snapshots and take new ones in the right "position" . Admittedly, I had never made it to the "best practices" No 6 video until today! I would not have thought that this would be an issue...

I updated the user file zip and made a new video showing this called "fail and success" ;)
                                    https://tinyurl.com/e8pkuye7

I hope this helps. Thank you again.

That’s really weird indeed! So you’re saying you did successfully make snapshots when it was failing before? Do you still have those Snapshots saved?

If you have them saved to disk please send them, otherwise send User Files while they’re loaded in the app. I have a feeling I know when they’re failing, just not how it gets into that state. Thanks!

Here is a link to the folder with the exported snapshots.

                                              https://tinyurl.com/5n8s9ncv

Just to be clear: If I loaded these snapshots and then attempted to take a new snapshot, it would fail, even if the BF window was not touching any outside areas of the edit window. If I delete ALL snapshots AND the BF window is in the correct location, it works as expected.

                                              I hope it helps; cheers.
