Disable Modifier Keys?

By Christoph Kuchner @Christoph_Kuchner

Hi, I am Setting up a Auto-Talkback function and am stuck with the "Special Clicks" Cmd, Opt, Shift for the MOM Deck Button Modifications.

My main DAW is Nuendo and I am sending a MIDI Note as Trigger to disable Talkback In MOMDeck when hitting Play and Open TB again when Stopped.

Works like a charm. Only Big issue I´m stuck with right now is: Hitting Command Space to record Triggers the TB Button with the command Button Pressed. So the "Change Name" window opens and The TB Button is not really pressed and TB not deactivated.
When Nuendo is already rolling, Punching In with Command Space does not trigger the Auto Talk Midi Note, so that works but is a lousy workaround.
Of course it is also possible to change the "Record" shortcut within the DAW, but who wants to do that....

Would be cool to deactivate all the Modifiers for a Button. Is there any way to do that?

Thank you in Advance. Best, Chris

Thanks for posting a question or an issue related to the 'Scheps MOMDeck' package.
This package is made by @Andrew_Scheps. We're auto-tagging them here so that they will hopefully be able to help you.

Please note, that the best way to get help with a script, macro or other content installed from the Store is to select the script you installed, then click the red Need help button, and then click "Get help with this script or macro".
By using this workflow, the developer of the package will get access to more information so they'll be able to help you quicker.

            HI @Christoph_Kuchner ,

I don't think I fully understand. You're saying that command-space is triggering the button even though you said it was a midi trigger assigned? Also, what would be the difference between the transport rolling or not.

Possible a zoom to see the workflow would be good. If you want to do that email me at info@bouncefactory.net and we'll set up a time.

            Thanks!
            Andrew

Or are you saying the midi trigger is automatically sen when you start and stop the transport?

                1. Hi Andrew,

thanks for getting back to me that quick! Sorry maybe It was due to my poor english or I didnt discribe it well enough.

Yes you are right, Nuendo sends the Midi trigger Note automatically everytime I hit "Space Bar" (so on Play and stop). That triggers the TB on MOMDeck reliable and immediate.

When I hit "Record" in Nuendo (its the same shortcut like in ProTools, so Command Space) It still triggers the TB Button in MOMDeck via the MIDI Note, but the pressed Command Key is also present - so the TB Button from MOMDeck "sees" a Command Click and wants to change the Name of the button. That of course is not very useful.

I thought it would be great to be able to disable these modifier Keys in MOMDeck or change the script of the TB Button to disable that behavior.

                  Thanks, Chris

Right, got it. I'm not sure about disabling it completely as people use the TB button for lots of different things. Let me think about how to do this...

                      1. You are right. It is great to change the names of all buttons. Also great, that the names change with the Layers!
But once Dadman and MOMDeck is set up, it would be great to disable that modification keys, as we all are not changing our setups daily ;-)

Would be really cool to find a solution there. I think auto Talkback is a super cool feature (its a pitty, that dadman has not implemented this directly, as they do have MIDI - I also wrote DAD and they found its a good idea but are not sure if they want/can implement that)
Thank you very much for your work and time.
I keep my fingers crossed for a solution ;-)

I have a workaround in my head but it's tricky. If it's not incredibly obvious it would be easy to think that the functions are broken

It might have to be the kind of thing you have to do each time you launch MOMDeck...

Also, of course you could set up auto-talkback in almost any scenario except yours...

                                  1. What would the other way to set up auto talkback you are talking about?

And of course setting up something special everytime you start MOMDeck is a bit of a painful workaround...

If you were in Pro Tools there is a transport running property you could use to trigger it. There might be a similar thing in Nuendo?

The solution would have to be something that resets, otherwise other users could think the naming is broken.

I’m not saying I won’t try and find a solution, but since you’re the only user so far who's asked for it I can’t change everybody else’s workflow. The problem is that when you need to rename the buttons is also when you are least familiar with MOMDeck so it could seem like it’s broken.

                                        I’ll keep thinking…

I'm thinking I could just make a set of buttons that ignore all modifiers. I'll put a version out today. Just replace the TB button on your deck with the new one and set the midi trigger to that one (make sure to clear it from the original button).

Version 1.0.9 has a new set of buttons in the "Drag and Drop Deck Buttons" folder called "MOMDeck Button Commands - Ignore all Keyboard Modifiers" Let me know if that sorts it out!

                                  1. Wow that is great! Thank you for that!
I will give it a try later this day 🙏
