Tried to save a project in Logic Pro 11.
Tried to save a project in Logic Pro 11.
System Information
SoundFlow 5.9.1
OS: darwin 23.6.0
ProductName: macOS
ProductVersion: 14.7.2
BuildVersion: 23H311
Steps to Reproduce
- Load a sampler instrument in a new project.
- Save project
- sfbackend crash
- Logic beachballs indefinitely
Expected Result
Project should quickly save
Actual Result
- sfbackend crash
- Logic beachballs indefinitely
Workaround
No
Other Notes
Ever since I "upgraded" to Sonoma from Ventura, Logic has been behaving very erratically. Saving projects takes minutes, sometimes resulting in indefinite "not responding" (which requires force quit).
I don't always get the sfbackend crash, but I noticed it in this case so wanted to mention.
I think there are multiple factors at play here, so I understand this may be tricky to diagnose, but any help is much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi @Jesse_Gay,
I'm sorry you are experiencing this. As a first troubleshooting step, can I get you to update to SoundFlow 5.10.1 by logging in, downloading, and installing the latest stable update from soundflow.org/account/install
If updating SoundFlow does not resolve the issue, please let me know.
Thanks in advance.Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2024-12-31 12:11:56.661Z
It may also be necessary to ensure you're running the latest version of the official Logic package :)
Jesse, when looking at the crash report it appears the crash was in MIDI handling. Are you using SoundFlow with any kind of MIDI setup? And was this error a one-off or can it be reproduced?

Is this related to SoundFlow? Can you reproduce that behavior only when SoundFlow is running? It could be that something related to Logic or a plugin you're using has regressed after the upgrade, and that SoundFlow merely becomes collateral damage.

Hi Guys,
re: Was I using with any MIDI setup-
Can you clarify this question? I have many MIDI devices in the studio, but I wasn't doing anything MIDI-specific when this happened.re: Is this related to SoundFlow-
I'm not sure. The only reason I thought it might be (or at least partially) is that one of the crashes in the crash log is sfbackend. However, this is the only time I've seen sfbackend crash recently, though I've had many Logic crashes, so it could be a red herring.Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2025-01-02 09:59:09.216Z

What I meant is if you are using any of SoundFlow's MIDI features, ie. MIDI triggers or sending MIDI from SoundFlow to Logic?

My guess is the Logic crash is due to a faulty plugin in the session, if not a crash in the system-wide MIDI handling itself (which then caused both Logic and SoundFlow to crash/beachball).
If you encounter any other SoundFlow crashes, please let us know, and equally if you encounter a more direct relation between anything SF does and your Logic crashes.
As far as we know from the current set of information, my guess would be either a plugin in Logic causing problems, or something in Logic itself, possibly related to MIDI. There's no current indication, based on what you described, that it would be caused by SoundFlow. The easiest way to rule that out is to quit SF and see if your issues stop occurring.

You could also try looking into the Logic crash logs to see if they reveal any more information. This will likely speed up your troubleshooting process.

Thanks, I've been feeding the crash logs into Perplexity to try to get some insight. Some clues, but nothing definitive yet.
On a better note, I just went through a process of resetting keychain and so far things are running much better. I'm not sure why this worked, but I got the tip from this lengthy thread on LPH. https://www.logicprohelp.com/forums/topic/157911-logic-111-super-slow-loading-projects-or-plugins/page/5/#comment-932595
