When I connect my streamdeck XL directly to my computer, the light is turning on, but it doesn't show anything. Also, the Stream Deck doesn't seem to be recognized by both the Stream Deck App, and Soundflow

    System Information

    SoundFlow 5.9.1

    OS: darwin 23.6.0

    ProductName: macOS
    ProductVersion: 14.6.1
    BuildVersion: 23G93

    Steps to Reproduce

    1. The issue occured when I plugged my Stream Deck XL on a USB hub
    2. When the black screen (but light on) appeared the first time, I plugged the Stream Deck directly on the USB port of my computer (Mac Studio M2 Max)
    3. Everytime I plug the Stream Deck, the buttons are lit, but black
    4. The Stream Deck doesn't seem to be recognized by Soundflow, and doesn't appear in the Stream Deck app

    Expected Result

I would expect the Stream Deck to work properly

    Actual Result

The Stream Deck is lit, but black, and not recognized

    Workaround

    No

    1. Hi Thibaut,

It's not possible to use both SoundFlow's direct Stream Deck integration and the Stream Deck app at the same time. You'll have to either use our direct integration, or use the Stream Deck app with our SoundFlow plugin. We strongly recommend going with the first option.

You can read about the pros/cons of each solution here and see how to set things up properly:
      https://soundflow.org/docs/how-to/stream-deck/setting-up

Note, since we receive tons of bug reports when users try to set things up manually using the Stream Deck app, our default (when you set up SoundFlow for the first time) is to use our direct integration. Using that, we can guarantee a much more seamless experience, so that's what we recommend.

          Hi guys,

I definitely use Soundflow all the time. I just tried to open the StreamDeck app once, because my StreamDeck was not recognized anymore.
It seems that this USB extender just broke my StreamDeck XL.

Since StreamDeck and Soundflow are for professional use, I had to buy a new StreamDeck quickly. But here in France, I'm not the only sound engineer to have very bad experiences witht the very bad "powering" of the StreamDeck XL : it just sucks all the time.
Every other time I get in a new studio, I plug my StreamDeck, and it's not recognized because of this crappy powering.

I emailed Elgato about my issue, they are not able to understand what happened, except that it must be "hardware related".
I suggested them to make a new StreamDeck version with power supply. Or at least to make a list of USB extenders compatible with the StreamDeck XL.
Could you guys -the Soundflow team- make a list of USB extenders that actually work with a StreamDeck XL ?

Anyway, thanks for you anwser !
          Best,
          T.

          1. Hi Thibaut,

Ugh I'm sorry to hear that this has been a repeating issue for you. Unfortunately, this kind of stuff is hard for us to test "in production" as it probably depends on a lot of factors, such as exactly how much power is being drawn, which can vary for each device configuration and depends on which other devices are connected to a hub.

I'm investigating some things internally but yes, I agree with you that the ideal would be if they made devices with power supplies and possibly Ethernet connections to avoid USB hubs/extenders alltogether.
