Bounce each track through mix bus

By Iwan Morgan @Iwan_Morgan

    Hi Andrew,
I'm sure this has been covered but I'm having difficulty understadnnig the way to bounce every single track in my session through my mix bus. I have a few albums ready where the artist wants a full multitrack bounce rather than the usual set of mixes (full, inst, accapella, Tv etc) they usually want and i really want to master this process. I use a lot of routing folders so tracks cascade for instance, if we look at drums : K,Snr,OH>All drums>INST>Mixbus. so I would like bounce factory to bounce K, Snr, OH individually through that chain as well as also print the routing folder sums.

Is there are a video or guide for this scenario, I have been looking and also asked Chat GPT but it would be great if you (or anyone else here) could advise on the best practice.

I have been using Soundflow a little bit so I have some knowledge but mainly just using VCAs to mute/solo things for bounces which I think is beyond my description above.

    Thanks,
    Iwan

        Hey Andrew or anyone else,

Could anyone give me a heads up on the above?

        Thanks
        Iwan

          Hi, @Iwan_Morgan,

You can set up multiple mix passes for stems using the "Add Batch..." feature of Bounce Factory, described in this video at about 5:00:

The entire YouTube playlist called Bounce Factory Quick Start (Music) should answer most questions related to this process, with the bulk of information about your scenario in the first two videos.

Andrew selects multiple VCA tracks in the video, but you can choose any track with solo functionality. You can select all your drum tracks (K, Snare, OH, etc.) in a single batch. When bounced, each of those tracks in the batch will be soloed individually as separate passes. You could feasibly do this for all the tracks in your session, but it's important to consider the solo-logic of your mix routing (maybe you don't want to select reverb/delay aux returns, for example).

              Hey @Iwan_Morgan ,

Sorry, I only just saw this post, please reply if you still need help with this!

                  Hi @Andrew_Scheps

My turn to have missed your message! I’m returning to this, this week and determined to get my system dialled in. I had some help from a friend who guided me through his process on setting up Batch bounces. At the moment I'm prepping the session with appropriate track names and making sure everything is soloable. I then take the snapshot and add all tracks in the session as a batch with the output being 1+2 where my main mix routing folder outputs to.

This is working although I have a few issues/questions.

                  1. I keep getting a ‘record enable’ message. In order to get past this I need to click on it and then the session opens again and resumes bouncing. This is a problem if I want to setup a load of songs to bounce overnight. Any ideas what will be causing it? It doesn't happen on each pass
                  2. How would you approach bouncing vocals with and without aux returns? I'm finding commiting the Aux returns pre bounce factory is my workaround at the moment but would ideally like to miss this step.

                  Thanks Andrew,
                  Iwan

                      Hi @Iwan_Morgan ,

For the "Record Enable" message, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Could you get a screen recording of it? I'm assuming nothing is actually in record ready. I have a feeling it's might be because the source is an output and not a bus, but I'm not sure. The workaround would be to route your mix bus folder to an internal buss, then route that to the output. That way you would choose the internal bus as the source.

For 2, The easiest way ois to take a second Snapshot with the vocals set up with their outputs going to a dea bus. That way when you solo them there won't be any direct signal. Once you've done this just make sure that in the Snapshot Data Recall Filter in teh settings that you have enabled I/O.

Let me know how it goes!
                      Andrew

Thanks Andrew, that's really helpful. The computer is running stems right now so I can't set it to screen record but I have managed to get a still screen capture. For the next track I'll try and implement the dead bus for the output to see if that fixes things.

                              Hi Andrew,
I tried setting up the dummy bus but Bounce factory wouldn't allow me to select it and it didn't show up in the possible sources. I ran the stems anyway while screen capturing so that I could record the 'record enable' issue. It doesn't happen on each bounce but it does happen very early into this video:

If you could assist I'd be grateful. I don't think I'm asking it to do anything super convoluted, but being unable to allow it to bounce overnight means trying to sort this out is taking me and my computer out of active duty as I have to monitor it while its bouncing and I can't get on with other work.

                              Thanks,
                              Iwan

                                  Hi @Iwan_Morgan ,

I don't think the dummy bus you are using is what I meant. If your mix bus is directly feeding an output, you would have to actually route it through an aux with an internal bus for it to be a valid source. So Mix Bus -> Aux with some input -> Original Mix output. Then you set the source to the bus that is the output of the mix bus.

It's very strtange that you are getting that dialog though! Could you please send me User Files so I can see the logs? Go to the BF settings, click "Report A Problem" and click the button to Save User Files and then post a link here.

                                  Thanks!
                                  Andrew

                                          Hi @Iwan_Morgan ,

Do you have a custom key command for Record?

                                          1. IIwan Morgan @Iwan_Morgan

I do have a few on the numpad to control my metric halo software monitor controller but none overide 3 which is usually what I press to record.

I think what's happening is that when BF tries to recall a Window Configuration it's triggering a custom command that then confuses the issue.

Also, I don't think this will fix your problem, but if you could update to the latest SoundFlow and Bounce Factory that might help in general. (https://soundflow.org/account/install).

                                                      Hi Andrew,
I deleted the cutom commands from the numpad and it seems this has fixed the issue - I'm 29 out of 69 bounces in so far with no issue. Thanks for your help with it!

Awesome! I'd like to figure out how to make it so you can change the commands for the future though. Which exact key commands did you have set up?

                                                              Numpad *
                                                              Numpad .
                                                              Numpad +

They were quick ways to toggle between ref mixes, dim, mute, mono. They were a legacy from before i installed a Streamdeck to control the monitor controller so I'm not really losing anything from getting rid of them.
