I have an M3Pro Mack Book Pro 14", which has a notch for the camera, so limits the amount of space in the menu bar for icons, meaning that the Soundflow icon isn't visible so I can only access it if I have a 1920 x 1080 external monitor (without notch) connected.
System Information
SoundFlow 5.10.5
OS: darwin 24.5.0
ProductName: macOS
ProductVersion: 15.5
BuildVersion: 24F74
Steps to Reproduce
- Boot up M3Pro MacBook Pro 14" Sequoia 15.5
- Soundflow autoruns
- Unable to see SF icon on menu bar due to screen notch
- Click on Soundflow app in the Applications folder or the shortcut in the dock
Expected Result
Soundflow should open
Actual Result
Got told off by SF for attempting to open it that way, and directing me to the (non visible) menu bar icon
Workaround
Connect an external monitor at least 1920x1080. Not practical at all times.
Other Notes
I don't appreciate being told by software that I'm opening it "the wrong way", when I can't access it any other way.

If SoundFlow is open, you should be able to open the SoundFlow Editor using "Control+F1" (The default keyboard trigger for opening the SoundFlow UI)
Let me know if that works for you. :-)

Hi,
Unfortunately the keyboard is a limitation. The Func keys default to being system controls. To engage the Func keys you have to press the fn key in the bottom left. I've tried holding fn+F1+control, fn+F1+command, even fn+F1+option, without the editor opening.

I see, thanks for reporting back.
Another possible solution would be to rearrange the menu bar icons. To do this, hold down the Command key and drag the icons to your desired positions.
Let me know if that works for you.

Hi @Alan_Sallabank5,
Here are a few extra solutions. @Kitch's suggestion to move the menu bar icon using the command key to drag it will likely be the best fix, but here are some other things to consider:
- Recently, macOS seems to have made the default key binding for F1 "Turn Keyboard Access On and Off." You can turn this off by navigating to "System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts.." and then to the "Keyboard" category. Then Uncheck "Turn Keyboard Access On and Off."
- Alternatively, you can change the F1 shortcut from the SoundFlow app to something else by navigating to SoundFlow Core in the packages list on the left, selecting the "Open SoundFlow UI" action, and assigning a new trigger.
- Finally, with needing more menubar apps at my disposal, I get a lot of use out of the Bartender App - this allows you to hide away menu bar apps that you are not using regularly, and makes using the MacBook Pro with the notch a bit easier.

Top Advice! Many thanks.
Sometimes I think MacOS is harder to tweak than Windows!
However, I still don't understand what the issue is with launching from the dock or apps folder. I can do that with other apps that minimise to the menu bar
