Stream Deck "Folders"?

By Mike Thorne @Mike_Thorne

I'm using Pro Tools with Sound Flow and investigating buying a stream deck, and if so, which size.

Is it possible to have the stream deck display different "Decks" of shortcuts, depending on what you're doing in Pro Tools? Or is it restricted to one Deck of commands per program? e.g. one for Pro Tools, one for Izotope etc.

    Thanks!

        Hello Mike!

You can use folders to have multiple layers and also you can recall other decks from the buttons, that's the way I have mine set up

Get the Stream Deck XL. You won't regret it. :-)

You can create profiles for this to change triggers sets.

You will also be able to have window dependent triggers in SoundFlow 3.6 (Soon to be released).

            Rockn on!

Thanks! Just checked and it looks like I’ll have tk get the regular stream deck as the XL is usb3 only.

My studio Mac has usb3 but it’s in a separate machine room and usb 3 extenders are quite pricey!

I think the Stream Deck XL works with USB 2 but I have no way to test it. @chrscheuer might know though.

That'd be great to know if the XL does work with USB2!

I just asked the Facebook usergroup for input on this.

                          Hi Mike,

It looks like you may be right about the USB 3 situation.

Thanks for replying on the facebook forum @Ugosound

                              That's great info - thankyou both :-)

                              1. I'm not sure but I think I've had it running over USB2 ports for a while. I wouldn't necessarily say that Ugo's experience conclusively means that USB2 was to blame, it could have also just been a faulty unit. But to be sure I would try to get in touch with Elgato to ask.

Thanks, Christian. I've messaged Elgato and will post their reply when I get it.

I've installed a Stream Deck XL and, so far, it's running great.

My machine room is some way away so I'm using a USB2 > CAT5> USB2 extender. I was concerned the SD XL wouldn't work as Elgato specify USB 3 for various reasons on their website FAQs.

I'm using a powered Anker USB3 HUB (but the connection from the Mac Mini to the hub is USB2) and it's working great with soundflow.

                                        1. Great to hear, Mike! Thanks for letting us know this is possible :)
