Media Uploader IOGates space
If I buy more storage on the IOGates website will that apply to my Soundflow Media Uploader account or is the max just 5 gigs?

My apologies, the "cc @..." just means that I'm copying somebody into the thread to notify them, it's not intended as you needing to do anything :) Fortunately, Tobias from ioGates already chimed in.

Yes I see. Thank you again.

Hi @Chris_Testa,
When you upgrade for more ioGates storage for your SoundFlow account it also covers the MediaUploader.
You also get access to more ioGates features and the 14days expiry on files is removed. Please contact us at sales@iogates.com to upgrade.
Thanks!

Hey Christian,
so the media uploader is very cool and easy. The upload speed is a bit slow compared to Dropbox and Frame IO although I think the entire process is much easier. My question is, how do I see, manage, organize and delete what I put up? There doesn't seem to be any instructions on that. Honestly if you could incorporate some of the aspects of Frame IO into this with some features that Frame IO is lacking you could have the best review program out there.

Also, is there a way to view full screen and make notes? It doesn't seem like I can do that in Safari.

I'll refer to @Tobias_Steinmann for this :)
If you click the ioGates logo in the Media Uploader, you'll be logged in to the ioGates backend website where you'll have much more control over advanced functionality.

As @chrscheuer writes you should be able to access your ioGates account by clicking on the logo in the Media Uploader. If it is the first time you will be asked to set a password and after that you can also login on iogates.com using the same email address as you use for SoundFlow.
For help using ioGates, we have a lot of information on help.iogates.com and you are always welcome to contact us if you have questions.
We have some work planned on improving upload speed, but I cannot say when it is ready, it is part of a much larger project. Can I ask where you are located?
We do no currently allow commenting in full screen.
I am very interested in hearing which features you would like to see.

Hello Tobias,
I am in Burbank, CA. I'm working everyday on television, films. commericials... I'm fortunate enough to be working on multiple shows and films etc at a time from my home studio so i feel like I'm someone who is using programs like this a lot. I do understand that upload speed is a tricky thing and a lot of it is out of your hands but anything to speed that up would be great. As of now the Frame IO Transfer app seems to be the quickest uploader. Dropbox being second.
So I've tried, Vimeo, Dropbox Relay, Frame IO and now Soundflow Media Uploader. I'm assuming that Avid is at work on something like this, I could be wrong, but they would be silly not to. I do think all of them have good things and bad things but none of them really have everything. So in my opinion, without getting into too much detail this is what I would love to see...

a decent storage option. Frame IO has 250gigs for $15 a month. That is a great deal. With that I can set up multiple shows and create folders for each episodes with folders in those for review videos, session data transfers (between my assistant or any other collaborator), final prints and anything else. With 250 gigs I can really work for months without having to constantly be deleting things and freeing up space. With 250gigs or so, I can get through an entire project or projects, then delete them when I'm done and start new projects and folders for the next set of projects.

The ability to add a collaborator or assitant or someone else that can upload and download and share that folder for a reduced cost. Maybe they can't create folders or mange but upload and download. This would be enormously helpful for anyone who has an assistant. Frame IO offers this but you have to pay full price for that. Also, their terminology for "collaborators" and "groups" and all that is very confusing.
-
The ability to bounce and upload not only movies for review but final stems. To be able to setup my bounce window and then have PT bounce and immediately upload to the preset folder would be amazing.
-
The ability to set presets for group emails. Each project and really, each folder has different people associated with it. For instance, my post supervisor might be the one reviewing the .mov but once I'm done with changes and I upload prints, those will only go to AE's. Also, the mov review does not need to be downloaded (it should have that option) whereas the final prints obviously have to be downloaded by the AE's. Being able to set all that up on a per folder basis and save it and recall it with a one button preset would save a TON of time. As of now you can't do that in any program. I literally have to have a text doc for each group with their emails and copy paste that. I mean this is 2022 right?

the ability to view all your "Projects" and folders in projects with all their info. Frame IO has this but if you start the name of your folder with SHOW_EP#_... then that's all you see. It is abbreviated and you can't see the suffix so you don't really know what folder is what. Being able to see the full name for each folder is very important.
-
Having the ability to fully customize the bounce window for .mov's or obviously prints. For instance, I've been using the H.265 codec because it's a bit better compression and I'd like the client to see the best quality video that I have that I can reasonably upload in a short period of time. I should be able to select that and have the script reflect that.
-
Obviously full screen or mostly full screen viewing with comments.
-
A notification button for clients to click when they are done with the review so we don't have to do some coded thing. Ex, my post supervisor will always create a "thank you" comment in Frame IO to let me know that he is done. There should just be a button they can click that automatically sends to the "uploader" letting him know that that client is finished with an included clickable link that will drop those markers or clip regions directly into ProTools. Honestly I would never use the markers because I have so many markers already it would be tough to sift through them (I've wished that ProTools would have different marker tabs forever but oh well). Ideally clicking that link creates a new mono track in ProTools and puts down the clip region with the markers. Maybe even in "Large" view. At that point you would have basically one click to print and send and one click to receive comments and start working. 2 CLICKS. That is as minimal as it could be.
-
Frame IO Slack integration is great as well. Maybe an ability to select where you want your notifications sent, text, email, slack, etc
-
Having a downloadable doc to file away and reference if you feel you need to keep those notes. Maybe the notes also automatically get stored in the folder that the video lives in as well.
-
Finally some very straightforward video on the sign up, set up, management and all that. Again, Frame IO is doing that as well but good luck following their videos. They are terribly done unfortunately.
So some of these are probably doable and some are not. If there was one program that had all this stuff it would make my life and I'm sure a lot of other mixer's lives much easier. I'm sure there are plenty of things I'm not even thinking of but I'm really glad you asked for my input. I wrote to Frame IO and asked to speak with one of their project specialists and they decliened which seemed incredibly silly. I hope this helps and I look forward to talking more. As of now I can't use the Beta because my clients want a big video to look at and after using Frame IO I don't think they will want to go backwards. Once you get the full screen ability I will happily switch over.
Thank you. ChrisChristian Scheuer @chrscheuer2022-02-04 00:00:42.287Z
@Chris_Testa that's some excellent input, thank you for sharing.

Of course. I LOVE Soundflow. I tell everyone about it. It makes my life better since I can work faster. I'm all for giving back in any way. I hope you're able to make it happen.

Maybe also add a "rename files?" option between bounce and upload. That would be really helpful as well since my IO is more generally labeled to fit all projects but each projects prints are pretty specific. Again, maybe a preset. You input the file names at the beginning then just have them there to select throughout the project.
