First step(s) for using SoundFlow with a new app?

In my case specifically, I want to be able to have Pro Tools communicate bi-directionally with Softube Console One. There is a hardware controller that communicates with a standalone Console app, which in turn controls plugins on Pro Tools tracks.
I would like, for a start, to be able to select the focused track on the controller by selecting the track in PT, or vice versa. Step one obviously is to see what the message flows look like. How would I "tap in" to be able to see that? I have a great deal of development experience, but this is new turf for me.
