Hi Jason,
What version of the SF app are you running on your iPad? Unfortunately, we do know that there are connection issues on some network configurations. We don't yet know what causes these disruptions, only that it works very reliably on most setups but on some network configurations for some reason it works less reliably.
We are working right now on changes to the iPad app (and the Mac app) to make an effort of making this more reliable across all network connections, but since this work is in early alpha/beta test right now, it'll be some time before we can share it.
What's the iOS version you are running?
It's very possible that there isn't a quick solution to what you're seeing, except for troubleshooting network issues (which is outside the scope of what we can help with), but I'll log your report here as part of our internal work item so that we take a look at this particular case as well.

Have you noticed any changes to this behavior recently which made you report the bug now, or has this been a long standing issue? If this is a recent change, do you remember anything that has changed in your setup recently which may impact this?
I'm asking very broadly here, because as I mentioned before, we at this point still have no idea why these setups behave so differently.
I'm thinking of ways that we may be able to share public beta versions of the next iPad version to see if we can have more end users test this, but this hasn't been settled yet, and is still some time down the road.

It may also be helpful for us if you can share a bit about your network topology..
For example:- Do you have both Ethernet and Wifi enabled on your Mac?
- Do your iPad and Mac share a single router or are there multiple routers in your setup?
- Does your Mac have multiple Ethernet cables attached for separate equipment?
- What's the model and make of your router?
- Do you have any kind of advanced security turned on in your router or any non-standard settings?

It seems to be a recent issue for me. But I haven't been using it for a couple months now. So It could be part of some iOS update or something.
MacOS is Catalina. (This has been the same since I started using SF)
iPadOS: 15.4.1 (up to date)
Soundflow: 5.1.3I've tried even connecting my laptop to the same wifi network instead of having it hardlined but that doesn't seem to help the issue either. As of right now I have both Ethernet and Wifi going. I will try to turn off the hardline and see if that helps. And I use a Netgear gigabit switch to attach the ethernet for the internet and my Avid artist mix.
My network is prettttty basic, no advanceed security. Its just an Airport Extreme with a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band. I also have a guest network. on it as well. Maybe I can try ditching the guest network later tonight and see if that helps. Now that im writing it, that may be the only addition to my setup that has changed since I used SF last.

Hi Jason,
Thanks so much for the details. I do think there was an iOS update that made changes to LAN network usage recently. We have already addressed that particular thing in our own internal beta here now, but I'm not sure if it's the reason for what you're seeing.
Definitely, any troubleshooting you can do on your end would be immensely helpful for us. It's not guaranteed you would be able to fix it, but even knowing which steps don't fix it, could prove helpful in figuring out why this is unreliable.

Is it the 4.2.0 version of SoundFlow you have on the iPad? (That should be the most recent public version)
- JJason Freeman @Jason_Freeman
Yup! Just checked this one and it is 4.2.0
Also, yesterday when i disconnected the hardline internet and just had wifi running, it seemed to behave better. Still ran into the same issue but not nearly as much. Should I NEED to have wifi on for this to work? Because i'd rather not use wifi on my studio setup. It definitely acts better on wifi over hardline, though.

Should I NEED to have wifi on for this to work
I actually don't know. As long as the devices can "see" each other it should just work, but obviously that's not stable in your case.
I'll know more once we have done some more tests on our end with our new setup. We'll make a video and guides on how to troubleshoot issues once the new version comes out, and I'll possibly link to preview builds here for you to test with.

Was using it this weekend a bit as well. One thing I noticed is the beginning of my day, it seemed to work pretty well. Then after my computer had the screen saver come on, thats when the two devices had more trouble communicating and I would have to try clicking the deck several times for it to show up.
Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2022-05-09 17:53:55.464Z
Thank you, Jason! That's very good to know.

Just updating you on more of my testing around with this.
So i switched back to hardline ethernet for internet. Disabled the wifi. Everything connects fine. And Instead of leaving the SF app running on my iPad when I walk away for my 1 hr break, I kill the app.
When I come back, I reconnect the app once the computer is not on screensaver or just a black screen. And ever since doing this I haven't encountered the same issue. So my thinking is is has something to do with the computer going to "sleep" and the app getting all confused about what happened.

That's great news. Thank you, Jason, that does make sense, and is something that should be easy for us to try out in our testing.
In the meantime we've made some internal improvements and I'm testing out a new mechanism for how the iPad and Mac find each other in a way that shouldn't cause as many issues with stuff like this.
I've attached this thread to our internal bug report SF-499 so we'll keep you updated when there's any news with the next iOS version.- JJason Freeman @Jason_Freeman
Hey Christian,
Is there any possibility that these errors can be tied to a certain Pro Tools session specifically? Seems like every time I go to this one project, I have so much more trouble with this error than on the other project I have been working on.
