Printing Analog Console Stems Internally (*Not Bounce to Disk)

Found this video of Mike Dean having a script that prints stems of his sessions that use analog summing. It seems like it solos each track, selects the clips on that track and then records the output of the summing mixer to its own track, then renames and playlists each one. I think a lot of us who use analog summing already do this process manually (by printing internally to a track rather than bouncing) so it would be cool to have a script that automatically does it.

Is there already one out there?

    Here's the video: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=638396110793910

FYI this is a process for music mixers who send each track out to a summing mixer or console, and then record the output of the summing mixer to a stereo input in Pro Tools to monitor off of. Pretty common workflow for those using analog consoles and summing mixers. I'd then take the one track with playlisted stems and create a new session to make any final mix tweaks with the client as well as have an archived version of the mix for the future.

        Hi @Michael_Piazza ,

Not a plug per se for Bounce Factory, but if instead of printing to a track you use the bounce dialog (which will work fine printing in real time using external summing) it will do all of that unattended, including putting them all on playlists. It might be worth trying the trial to see how it would work for you.

Thanks Andrew. I’m actually already a subscriber to a Bounce Factory and love it, it’s been great to get back valuable hours to my life.

I think the most intriguing thing about the video I sent was how that script automatically selected the regions on each track and only printed those, as opposed to printing the entire timeline that’s selected for each stem. You know how tedious and time consuming it is to print analog stems, I think cutting down the time to only print the selected clips would benefit greatly. Not sure if this is possible with Bounce Factory?

                Excellent, glad you're liking it!

I know what you mean, Mike's script definitely saves time on tracks that don't have much on them. It's possible that I could use the Bounce Factory bounce engine with that sort of process but it would take quite a bit to implement so I'm not sure when/if that would happen.

I think my feeling was that since it can do it unattended it doesn't really matter how long it takes, but in some circumstances I can see it would be quite a difference in time.

All that said I don't think it would be too hard for you to put something together using mostly the built in Pro Tools functions in SoundFlow. It would end up being very specific to your setup but that wouldn't matter really. If you do pseudo-code (map out the step by step process without actually coding it) it's a pretty straight ahead process.
