User Manual for Soundflow?

Hi everyone, I'm enjoying the Soundflow trial at the moment but I'm having difficulty with programming certain things as it's very different to my old macros software, Quick Keys.

Is there a user manual for Soundflow where I can just read through everything from start to finish? Videos are great but a lot of info is missing for me. For example, in Quick Keys I can record a bunch of key presses and mouse clicks live and have the position of button pushes/mouse clicks on my desktop remembered by Quick Keys. This was how I would program macros for menus that have no previous shortcuts assigned - eg. the Pro Tools Clip List "Sort by" option. I'm seeing no way to do this in Soundflow, or at least not in a way that's obvious.

Where can I get a more detailed run down of Soundflow that's not the videos? Many thanks

      Hi @kearneymusic,

Thanks for reaching out. At present we do not have a great deal of documentation available but we plan to add it in future versions of SoundFlow. For now, it's best to ask here on the forum.

Also know that every Wednesday we hold a zoom hangout https://soundflow.org/hangout, where SoundFlow users can join me to talk about all things SoundFlow. Maybe during one of these sessions, I can walk you through the best approach to achieving your desired workflows.

      Regarding your question "How to select the Pro Tools Clip List "Sort by" option". You can do this using the macro editor following these steps;

Select the package in the "Package" list where you want to store your macro.

Create an new Macro by clicking the "+New" button in SoundFlow

Name the Macro "Clip List - Sort by" and press "OK"

In the Macro Editor click the "+Add Action" button. When the Search field appears search for "Activate App's Main Window" and press return.

In the "Activate App's Main Window" Macro Action, assign "Pro Tools" to the "Application" property.

Click the "+Add Action" button in the Macro Editor. When the Search field appears search for "Open & Select Item in Popup Menu" and press return.

In the "Open & Select Item in Popup Menu" Macro action, click the "Pick" button and then use "Command + Tab" to switch to pro tools.

Roll over the Clips List Popup menu until it is highlighted in red and then click it.

      Switch back to SoundFlow

In the "Open & Select Item in Popup Menu" Macro action's "Menu Path" property enter each step of the menu path followed by the return key (ie "Sort by" return "FileName" return)

After that, all you need to do is assign a Trigger and run the Macro.

To learn more about how to work with keyboard triggers, please watch the following video.

      I hope that helps :-)
      Rock on!

Hi Kitch, thanks so much for the quick reply and that worked! I'm not able to attend the zoom meetings as I'm always working at the time but this is exactly the kind of thing I'd love to know more about. Your macro worked but I'm not entirely sure why. I have somewhat of an idea but the lack of concise documentation on what these commands are doing behind the scenes is proving really problematic for me and fairly time-consuming which was not something I was expecting when demo'ing your software.

The big thing missing for me is that lack of information about these deeper menu items. Is there any way this can be rectified? Thanks again.

            Hi @kearneymusic,

I'm glad that worked for you.

We realize there is a lack of documentation and as a priority we are working on adding more information in future updates.

For now the best way to get help is via the forum of by using one of the methods outlined in the "How to get help with SoundFlow" article.

                Okay, thanks again Kitch.

                1. Just a small addition to the excellent advice from @Kitch here – you should also check out the following article: Where can I learn about SoundFlow?

We are indeed working hard right now on improving the documentation behind the scenes, as we fully agree this is an area that needs more work.
