OBS 28.0.3 websocket issues

By Zach Moody @Zach_Moody

I've been using a combination of SoundFlow, OBS, and Zoom to show remote clients take numbers during dialog records. It worked great until I updated OBS from 27 to 28.0.3. After updating OBS started crashing, Zoom would crash, and none of my SoundFlow buttons would control OBS. I've spent the morning troubleshooting and found out that OBS 28 has websocket V5 integrated so you no longer have to download it separately, but Soundflow doesn't seem to recognize it. I did find a version of the V4.91 websocket (4.9.1-Compat) that works with OBS 28. The link is different from the one on the OBS page in SoundFlow so I have pasted it here.
    https://github.com/obsproject/obs-websocket/releases/tag/4.9.1-compat

Is it possible to update the OBS package to work with the V5 websocket inside of OBS 28.0.3? I've got things working using the V4.9.1 Compat websocket but it's made Zoom super buggy. Thanks
    Zach

Thanks for posting a question or an issue related to the 'OBS' package.
This package is made by @chrscheuer. We're auto-tagging them here so that they will hopefully be able to help you.

Please note, that the best way to get help with a script, macro or other content installed from the Store is to select the script you installed, then click the red Need help button, and then click "Get help with this script or macro".
By using this workflow, the developer of the package will get access to more information so they'll be able to help you quicker.

Thanks Zach! Ah that's annoying that they've changed it in a non-backwards compatible way. I'll log a work item / bug for us so we can be sure to schedule work on this when time allows.

This issue is now tracked internally by SoundFlow as SF-675

Great, thanks Christian! The good thing is there's a workaround with the compat websocket, albeit a buggy one. But as long as I don't stop or change the video source in Zoom during a meeting, everything works fine. Thanks for all the great work on SoundFlow.

Hi did this get fixed yet? I am trying to set up OBS and since SF takes over my Streamdeck what used to be super easy for controlling OBS has become quite a challenge. Any updates?
                      Cheers!

                      1. Hi Lij.

Haven't had a chance to look at this yet, been swamped with work on our next version of SF.
I'll see what I can do to bump this.

Hey @Lij_Shaw ! And Hi @chrscheuer ! Curious if any update on the OBS package? I've recently come back to OBS after a 1-year hiatus and none of my SF buttons are working anymore. I suspect the OBS websocket change is the culprit as mentioned in this thread (?) but can't find any info on how to get things working again. I updated to OBS v29 and in hindsight perhaps I shouldn't have... Really hoping I can find a way to continue using my Stream Deck with SF to change scenes and whatnot. Thanks in advance!

                            1. Hi Dana,

We're currently at NAMM announcing all of our new 5.4 features. Once NAMM is over we'll have some time again to dive into this. We may not be able to get this done though until after we release 5.4 in May.

Gotcha, thanks Christian. Hope NAMM was great and look fwd to all the fun future updates :-)

Hi there, I am trying to do a very similar thing. OBS 29.1.3. SF5.4.4 no communication whatsoever from SF-to OBS. Will there be an update to this.
Essentialy I want a multiple action to happen on Record press- Record in Protools, change scene in OBS. And then the same for stop and play. Is this achievable through SF?

Also keeping my eye on this thread. I am excited to join the SoundFlow universe but if I cannot control my OBS cameras from my Stream Deck I will be unable to use the direct integration. If this package gets up to date with the latest websocket server shipped automatically in 30.1.2 then we will be up and running and more people can join the SF universe :) Remember a huge amount of Streamdeck users are coming over from OBS Studio / camera stuff so this is a big opportunity to win.
