Colour tracks and clips by name
Hi all - This seems to be one of those repetitive tasks that no one can escape. I'm hoping to expedite the process a little bit because colour between my sessions is consistent. I'm curious to know if this has been scripted before, and also how ProTools interprets colour values. My understanding of the colour palette is that the leftmost colour is #0 and the rightmost colour is #22, then bottom row = dark, middle row = medium, top row = light. Is that correct? That's how I interpreted it in one of the SoundFlow youtube vids. I have generated a long list of instruments and their corresponding colour values that I typically deal with and I was hoping to find a solution to colour all clips/tracks based on those track names. Is it feasible the script would look something like this with all tracks manually selected:
- Open colour palette window
- If track name contains "_____" then apply X colour

Hi Daniel,
At the moment, the easiest way to apply colors to tracks is to save a track preset with only the track color selected, and subsequently recall that preset to apply the color to the tracks you want. This method should be floating around the forum. The color palette is a pain from what I remember when I tried, so I would avoid that for now.
As for clips, I would recommend setting the option for coloring clips based on track color in the Pro Tools preferences. Then all clips on the track (aside from those copied from a playlist) will be the track color by default.
Hope that helps point you in the right direction.

Also you could try installing Scheps Session Prep Helpers and see what he did with it. It's open source.
