Pro Tools menus change color when using SoundFlow
Before I installed SF, I could just click an Insert in the PT mixer and start typing and there available plugins instantly popped up, containing characters I wrote. Now I need to actually click 'search...' for that to work.
I suspect the same thing interferes when I call up e.g. Superior Drummer 3 (Virtual Instrument) and double-click a label in its internal mixer and start typing, I get an error : 'Select Track Output Failed. Could not fetch output menu's items (TrackSearchOutputAction) Could not open track's output men...'
So, in this case to be able to rename a mixer fader inside the SD3 plugin, I need to disable SF first.

There are 2 different issues here:
#1 - Menus go into accessibility mode
Before I installed SF, I could just click an Insert in the PT mixer and start typing and there available plugins instantly popped up, containing characters I wrote. Now I need to actually click 'search...' for that to work.
This is a kink of the way Pro Tools services apps that remote controls it.
We are working to eliminate this in the future so the menus won't have to change, but it's not entirely under our control. There are some workarounds possible:
- Manually click the "search" menu item
- Use a SF shortcut to activate that search menu item
Read more here:
https://forum.soundflow.org/-429/how-to-work-around-the-pt-legacy-menu-not-supporting-tab-to-searchUnfortunately, SoundFlow cannot tell Pro Tools to switch to regular menus. It's controlled by Pro Tools, so we need to work with Avid to resolve this.
#2 - We don't always know when a user is typing text
SoundFlow by default has a bunch of shortcuts that don't have keyboard modifiers on them - that is, regular key strokes such as I, O, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... and so on.
This means, SoundFlow needs to detect when you're typing text (for example when renaming a track) and disable the shortcuts when you are. BUT unfortunately in some cases we cannot detect when you're typing text - for example when a text field in a plugin is focused. The workarounds for this are:
- Manually bypass shortcuts when you need to type text inside a plugin (or the few other places where we also don't detect it properly)
- Disable shortcuts entirely that don't have modifiers. I, O, Q for example.

Hi @John_Rammelt,
We've finally gotten around to making a video...
Click here for more information about the Pro Tools Menus Issue and workarounds;
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the excellent video.
This situation on macOS Monterey with PT Studio 2022.4 is unbearable. The insert menus are white text on light grey and extremely hard to read until hovering over. The choice colors (by Avid) are going to wrong direction.
In reference to the suggested workarounds, sometimes one doesn't remember the name of the plugin one wants to open and one has to browse the menu content.Christian Scheuer @chrscheuer2022-05-11 18:59:51.954Z
Hi Timo,
We are working hard on a solution for this :)
Yes, I agree the menu text color issue (which is actually a different bug in PT) makes this unbearable. We've seen users report in the forum that it's possible to make this work (the font color, not the bg color) by resetting any custom colors - but it's not a stable workaround for that separate bug. I don't remember where, but it's mentioned in the forum here somewhere.

Here it is - potential workaround for now until this is fixed permanently:
