    SoundFlow loses connection to iPad

    System Information

    SoundFlow 5.0.6

    OS: darwin 19.6.0

    ProductName: Mac OS X
    ProductVersion: 10.15.7
    BuildVersion: 19H1519

    Steps to Reproduce

    1. Using with Pro Tools 2021.12.0
    2. This is a random bug that prevents soundflow from connecting to the ipad. In fact, Soundflow does not even "see" the ipad. All other internet software is working when this happens. Yesterday, while in the middle of a job, Soundflow just dropped the connection and it took me over an hour to get the connection back. Needless, so say this is a serious bug. I have spoken to several other users whom have experienced the same problem.

      Hi Gregg,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this.

Usually, when this occurs, it comes down to the router blocking SoundFlow's connection. We are working on troubleshooting issues like this to see if there are things we can do to improve this going forward.

To help us investigate, can I get you to send us your device logs? To do that, shortly after having had a connection issue, make sure to note down the time the issue started (and potentially stopped), then immediately after, go to the iOS app, on the front page, then long press (5+ seconds) on the SF logo (before selecting a Mac server). This will open a wizard that will allow you to send us an email with the log files. Please send that to support@soundflow.org

We're tracking this issue internally in SF-499

      1. To help with our investigation into this, could you share with me the make & model of your router and if you have any specific configuration set up on it, like a firewall or other advanced security or networking? This would help us see if there's any correlation between your setup and that of others who've reported this.

Also, do you remember at which time today the connection broke and when it came back? This would help me see if there's anything unusual going on in your log files.

      2. G

Hi. Will send Log Files when this happens again. I don't have them from yesterday when this occurred. The router is Linksys Velop AX4200. Both the computer (Ethernet Wired) and iPad (WiFi) are about 20ft away with strong signal. Computer is MacPro 2019_7,1 running Mac OS 10.15.7 / iPad Pro 12.9 5th Gen. IOS 15.3.1
Router has 6 satellite (Child) towers connected that are much further away. All are connected by way of ethernet except 1. Other than that, no special configuration.
        Thx.

        1. New email with logs sent for same problem, today. As of 7:45 PM (PST) problem persist.

          1. Thank you, Gregg.

We'll investigate this and see if there's anything we can spot. Please note though that changes to the iOS/Android apps are usually involving long beta cycles due to the nature of these apps, so it's unlikely we'll be able to make quick changes to those apps here and now.

What we'll do on our end for now is to try to help troubleshoot to the extent that we can, and then plan ahead to see if there are patterns in the setups of users who're having problems with this, that we can use as a basis for doing potential redesigns or adding features such as sticky ports etc.

Unfortunately, network configurations can vary wildly and so it's very hard for SF to have any control over that setup - and it's equally hard to beta test since there are thousands of possible router/networking configurations out there.

Can you clarify again for me what exactly you're seeing on the iPad? Please note that when you're talking about SF on the Mac not seeing the iPad, it's actually the other way around. The SF Mac app works as a server that exposes a service, to which the iPad app connects when it can locate it on the network.

What you're seeing is that the iPad app can't see the Mac, correct? Or that you have some Deck selected on your iPad and then it suddenly jumps back to the main screen?

Note to self - device logs from Gregg are here:

        2. G

Hi. So yesterday and today's behavior seem to be different than 2 days ago. The iPad is seen by the Mac properly... but.. I have key commands to switch between 5 different decks on the iPad. When triggered now, all i get is a blank screen (Black with the SF logo in the upper right corner of the iPad). If I press that button it takes me back to the main screen where i see all of SF decks along with my personal decks. If i then do a refresh, the connections come back and I can then trigger my decks by key command again.
BTW, when on the main page of the iPad, is there any way to show ONLY my decks or a selection I choose to see there? This would also help with navigation.
          Thx

SoundFlow not Always Connecting with iPads when Powering Up MacStudio

              System Information
              SoundFlow: 5.10.5
              MacOS: Sequoia 15.5
              Computer: 2022 M1 Mac Studio Ultra • 128gb Flash • 4TB internal Flash Memory
              iPads - iPad Pro MVX23LL/A + iPad mini (5th Gen) MUQW2LL/A
              IOS on Both iPads: 18.5

              Steps to Reproduce
              1). Power up both iPads
2). Launch SoundFlow on both iPads
3). Power up Main computer. (SoundFlow automatically launches on startup)

My overall system consists of 2 computers that are running SoundFlow. The 2nd computer runs DaDman as well as MoMdeck via SoundFlow.

The problem that I'm having on my main computer (Mac Studio) is that I'm not seeing the icon that represents SoundFlow on either iPad that is connected to this computer.

              Expected Result
I'd expect to see SF icons for both decks on the iPads when the Mac Studio is fully booted.

              Actual Result
The only icon that I see is the one that represents SoundFlow on the 2nd computer that has DADman and MoMdeck on it.

              Workaround
Quit SoundFlow on the Mac Studio (main Mac) and restart SF again. At that point the missing icon usually appears on both iPads.

NOTE: These 2 iPads are connected to the Mac Studio via the WiFi connection to my router. Neither computer has WiFi enabled in the network settings.
